Our History
The Scripps Mesa Garden Club was founded by Cindy Drake in 1993. The first meetings were held in a restaurant on Mira Mesa Blvd but soon moved to the Scripps Ranch library. Cindy was an enthusiastic gardener living in Scripps Ranch and she wanted to bring others together to share ideas and solutions about gardening. The group started out small with only five or six members but soon grew to over fifteen. Information about events was written in the Scripps Ranch newsletter. The club had monthly speakers and went on tours of other members gardens something that continues today. After a few years Cindy married and she and her husband started a garden pest control business and moved out of state. The club was then taken over by Dennis and Judith Chapman who acted as presidents for several years. Other officers were formed and the club continued to thrive. Today the club continues to meet in the library and has monthly speakers on a variety of topics of interest to gardeners. The group tours members gardens and goes on outings to interesting nurseries and farms. The membership has grown to over twenty.
